The CSA Membership Cycle

We started HarvestHand and built HarvestHand CSA Software in the fall of 2013 because TapRoot Farms needed to spend less time in the office and make enough money to be financially sustainable. Since growing Taproot from 50-600 members in a 2 years, we've built this CSA Membership Model to represent all the stages of CSA marketing. It based on the proven Inbound Marketing model provides a guide of all the areas of marketing. Instead of using outbound marketing methods like buying advertisements, traditional sales methods, and praying for leads, inbound marketing focuses on creating quality content that pulls people toward your farm and products, where they naturally want to be. By aligning the content you publish with your customer’s interests, you naturally attract inbound traffic that you can then educate, close, delight, and retain over time.

CSA membership is cyclical and having the most profitable CSA means attracting, closing, and retaining members more efficiently every year. We developed this marketing cycle not only on Inbound Marketing model (the most successful marketing model for online marketing), but also based on patterns of the CSA marketing of farms who use HarvestHand CSA Software. We use it every day to provide guidance to the CSA's we work with.
